Department of Animal Production

A brief summary of the Department of Animal Production at the Faculty of Agriculture / University of Karbala

  1. Established by the department in 2011, the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agriculture / University of Karbala aims to prepare the student in the initial academic stages by teaching the basics of animal production for subsequent qualification to understand the specialization courses in the third and fourth stages.
  2. The department prepares agricultural engineers who are specialized in animal production and are able to carry out practical applications, preparing feeds and fodder materials, genetic improvement, reproduction and artificial insemination.
  3. The department grants a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science / animal production science that qualifies it scientifically to practice this profession by providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to raise their scientific, practical and research competence in the areas of animal and fish nutrition, animal husbandry and animal improvement and fish and biotechnology in the field of animal production and waste treatment.
  4. The department contains four laboratories, namely, the nutrition lab, physiological laboratory, meat laboratory, and fish laboratory, in addition to a meat processing plant and a slaughterhouse for poultry slaughter, and the section also includes a model hall for raising poultry, fields for raising birds such as turkey, domestic and foreign chicken, guinea poultry, peacock breeding fields, and cultivated barley cultivation room.

The future vision of the department includes the following themes

  1. Raising the efficiency of graduates of the Department of Animal Production to meet the future needs of the local market, through developing curricula and raising the efficiency of faculty members and providing laboratories, educational farms, the appropriate library and feed laboratoriesز
  2. Setting a strategic plan for the scientific research plan in the fields of animal production to solve the problems of the environment and society.
