With the participation of more than 100 universities from both countries, the Iraqi-Iranian Science Week kicks off in Holy Karbala, and an executive program is signed between the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and its Iranian counterpart.

The Iraqi-Iranian Science Week began in Holy Karbala, with the participation of more than 100 universities from both countries.
In his speech during the opening ceremony, attended by representatives of the Parliamentary Education Committee, the Governor of Karbala, the head of its council, university presidents, general directors, and cultural advisors, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, Iraq’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the second edition of the Iraqi-Iranian Science Week would focus on implementing detailed initiatives. These initiatives include the exchange of scientists, professors, and researchers, conducting joint research and technological projects, promoting cultural exchange, granting scholarships, holding specialized workshops, fostering technical and professional cooperation, and establishing joint science and technology parks.
He highlighted that the Iraqi government and its development institutions, especially the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, have achieved positive indicators in the internationalization of education and sustainable development. These efforts have positioned Iraq in significant global rankings, thanks to persistent attention to scientific research and the growth of global publication metrics. He also noted that the quality of education in Iraqi universities has paved the way for attaining international accreditation, ensuring that academic programs and awarded degrees meet high scientific standards.
For his part, Iran’s Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, Dr. Hossein Simaii Sarraf, expressed his gratitude for the high level of organization of the joint Science Week and emphasized the importance of scientific collaboration between the universities of the two countries to enhance their positions in global rankings.
The two sides signed an executive program between the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. The program includes several key points:
Enhancing joint cooperation through scholarship programs for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, particularly within the “Study in Iraq” initiative.
Organizing training workshops for faculty members and students.
Encouraging collaboration in joint scientific supervision.
Facilitating the exchange of university professors to conduct joint scientific research and deliver specialized lectures.
Establishing a joint scientific park in Iraq under the management of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The opening ceremony of the Iraqi-Iranian Science Week featured official speeches, scientific presentations, and the honoring of several distinguished individuals.
