As part of the principle of scientific cooperation between universities, the Assistant Dean for Scientific and Postgraduate Studies, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadum Mohammed Abdullah Al Fatlawi, participated in the defense of an external master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Anbar.
The thesis, submitted by the student Hamed Jabbar Rasheed from the Department of Field Crops, was entitled:
“Growth and Yield Response of Sesame Varieties to Foliar Application of Potassium Silicate.”
The aim of the thesis was to evaluate a set of sesame varieties under different concentrations of potassium silicate, to study their growth, yield, and quality traits, as well as to explore the role of potassium silicate in mitigating the problem of capsule shattering in sesame caused by environmental stresses.
The study concluded that the Giza variety outperformed the other varieties in all studied traits, and that all varieties showed significant responses to potassium silicate treatments, with the highest concentration producing superior results in all traits. The research recommended conducting future studies on other varieties and genetic lines of this important oil crop, as well as testing higher concentrations of potassium silicate under different environmental conditions.
The thesis was awarded a grade of “Excellent,” reflecting the outstanding scientific efforts of the student and the supervisor, and representing a significant contribution to strengthening scientific research in this field.
In recognition of his participation, the Assistant Dean received a letter of appreciation from the Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Anbar.
