Under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Thamer Karim Khudair Al-Janabi, and under the supervision of the Head of the Plant Protection Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Abdul-Hussein Karim, and within the activities of the cultural season in the Plant Protection Department for the academic year 2021-2022, Prof. Dr. Aqil Nazzal Berber gave a seminar entitled “Detection of Genetic Variations in Organisms and genetic mapping of target genes During the seminar, we talked about the types of molecular markers used to detect genetic variations in living organisms. It also talked about how to draw genetic maps in terms of their requirements and the programs used to locate genes on the chromosomes of an organism. The last part of this seminar included talking about the genetic mapping of a new gene for resistance to Potato virus Y (PVY), which was identified and located approximately in the middle of chromosome 9 of the potato chromosomes. This gene is considered new worldwide and previously unknown. After that, a fruitful scientific discussion took place with the attending professors by answering their questions and proposals. The seminar was attended by a group of faculty members and a group of graduate and primary students in the Department of Plant Protection.
