Visit of a delegation from the College of Agriculture at the University of Kerbala to the Southern Green Belt Project of the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Kerbala, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, the College of Agriculture at the University of Karbala witnessed on Monday, November 4, 2024, a visit by a high-level delegation to the Southern Green Belt Project of the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine, headed by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sabah Ghazi Sharif Al-Agha, and accompanied by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Assistant Professor Dr. Kadum Mohammed Abdullah, and a blessed elite of heads of scientific departments, in addition to the head of the Diwan Division in the college. This visit came in cooperation with the Syndicate of Iraqi Academics / Karbala Branch, represented by the Head of the Syndicate Branch, Professor Dr. Munir Abdul-Ali Al-Dami, with the aim of reviewing the reality of the project and following up on the environmental and agricultural achievements made on the ground. During the visit, the Project Director, Mr. Nasser Hussein Mutab, reviewed the steps and efforts made to achieve the project’s development goals and its role in supporting environmental and agricultural sustainability in the region. The delegation praised On the efforts made and expressed their appreciation for these achievements, the Dean of the College stated that the Southern Green Belt Project is one of the pioneering development projects supervised by the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine, with the aim of confronting desertification and improving the local environment, by planting large areas with trees and plants that suit the nature and climate of the region. The project comes within a series of efforts aimed at supporting sustainable development and enhancing the green environment, which contributes to reducing the effects of climate change in Iraq. At the end of the visit, it was agreed to hold a joint scientific and technical cooperation contract between the College of Agriculture at the University of Kerbala and the Green Belt Project Management, with the aim of exchanging scientific and practical expertise in various specializations and conducting joint research that contributes to developing the agricultural sector and supporting environmental sustainability strategies in the near future.
