
On Monday, February 3, 2025, a field visit was conducted by faculty members Asst. Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Talib Muhammad Ali, Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hadi, Lecturer Ahmed Barir Ahmed, and Lecturer Noor Ali Abd to the northern greenbelt affiliated with the Holy Abbasid Shrine.
The visit aimed to address the issue of palm stem borer infestation affecting approximately 2,800 palm trees in the greenbelt. The faculty members provided guidance on how to manage this problem and urged workers to adhere to the recommended measures to eliminate the pest and protect the palm trees from insect and fungal infections.
The recommendations included:
Using chemical pesticides to combat the infestation.
Implementing preventive methods, such as proper fertilization, placing soil barriers around young palm seedlings, and arranging circular irrigation channels around them to ensure optimal water distribution.
