Professor Dr. Abdul Zahra Jabbar Ali, representing the Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Kerbala, participated in the meeting of the Deans of Agriculture Colleges, held at the University of Wasit.
Professor Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Aqabi, President of the University of Wasit, welcomed the university’s guests, wishing the attendees success in serving their colleges. He emphasized the importance of developing a strategy that makes these colleges more attractive to students.
The deans highlighted the necessity of introducing new specialized departments and updating curricula to align with labor market demands. They also stressed the importance of adopting vertical and smart farming techniques, utilizing modern irrigation technologies, and implementing programs to develop and qualify graduates, enhancing their skills and competitiveness in the job market.
The Chairman of the Deans’ Committee further noted the support of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and his sincere efforts to find suitable solutions to the issue of students’ reluctance to apply to agriculture colleges. He also mentioned the Prime Minister’s special attention to the agriculture sector and its colleges, underscoring the need to leverage this support to strengthen the role of these colleges in achieving sustainable agricultural development.
