The College of Agriculture at the University of Kerbala continues its efforts to achieve sustainable development and enhance food security through scientific research led by its faculty members and postgraduate students. As part of its commitment to supporting scientific research and encouraging studies that contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector, a specialized scientific committee from the Department of Field Crops visited the research experiment site of PhD student Iman Hamed in the district of Twairij.
This visit was conducted with the support of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Dr. Ali Abdul-Hussein Karim, and the Head of the Department of Field Crops, Prof. Dr. Ali Nazim Farhoud. The purpose of the visit was to monitor the progress of the research experiment, which aims to identify the best wheat varieties capable of withstanding different levels of irrigation water salinity. This study is part of ongoing scientific efforts to develop sustainable agricultural solutions that help adapt to environmental challenges and strengthen food security amid accelerating climate changes.
The Dean of the College emphasized that this visit is part of a series of scientific activities carried out by the college to implement research on the ground and provide innovative solutions to enhance crop productivity and optimize the use of available natural resources. He also praised the role of students and researchers in conducting studies that contribute to the development of the agricultural sector and promote sustainability.
For his part, the Head of the Department of Field Crops highlighted the significance of such studies in improving crop quality and increasing their resilience to harsh environmental conditions, thereby contributing to food security at both local and national levels.
These efforts align with the vision of the College of Agriculture to support scientific research and direct it toward serving the community and achieving sustainable development. This reflects the college’s commitment to its pioneering role in advancing the agricultural sector and contributing to food security.
