University of Kerbala Holds a Seminar on the Applications of Tracking and Monitoring Systems in Entomology

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Abdul-Hussein Karim, and in the presence of the Head of the Plant Protection Department, Dr. Yasser Nasser Hussein, the Plant Protection Department at the College of Agriculture, University of Kerbala, organized a seminar titled “Applications of Tracking and Monitoring Systems in Certain Aspects of Entomology.”

The seminar discussed the importance of tracking and monitoring systems in studying insect behaviors and controlling agricultural pests. It covered the fundamentals of communication systems and their efficiency in this field. Additionally, the session highlighted global applications of tracking systems in insect monitoring and predicting pest outbreaks in agricultural fields, contributing to enhanced agricultural production and crop protection.

Lecturer Ali Abdul-Ridha emphasized the role of drones in modern pest control operations, describing them as advanced tools for monitoring agricultural fields and precisely identifying pest hotspots. He also discussed the use of smart insect traps, which provide real-time data on pest distribution, facilitating timely preventive and remedial measures.

The Dean stressed the significance of such seminars in developing the skills of faculty members and students while promoting scientific research in plant protection. He commended the department’s efforts in organizing academic events that elevate the college’s status and contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector in Iraq.
