As part of the field activities carried out by the Department of Plant Protection at the College of Agriculture – University of Karbala, Mr. Ali Abdul Redha and Agricultural Engineer Mohammed Shaheed Ghazi conducted a field visit to inspect beehives and carry out routine maintenance as part of the department’s program to support sustainable agricultural projects.
The visit included examining the health status of the bees and identifying any signs of diseases or pests that may affect hive productivity. In addition, the structures were cleaned and maintained to ensure a healthy and safe environment for the bees.
Field measures were also taken to combat the red wasp, which is considered one of the most significant pests threatening beehives. This included setting up traps and monitoring the activity of invasive insects to limit their spread using environmentally friendly control methods.
This activity is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the practical skills of technical staff and provide advisory support to local beekeepers and farmers, contributing to improved agricultural productivity and the achievement of food security.
