The Department of Plant Protection discusses a master’s thesis on fertilizer residues on cucumber crop

The Department of Plant Protection, College of Agriculture, University of Karbala, discussed the master’s thesis tagged: Study of the residues of the pesticides Abamectin 1.8% EC and Chlorfenapyr 24% SC and used to control the two-spot mite Tetranychus urticae Koch on cucumber crop under protected cultivation conditions, by the student Salam Hashem Tallil, on Monday 16 -8-2021. The study dealt with evaluating the efficacy of some biocides of plant origin, in the laboratory and in the field, on T. urticae, and studying the evaporation of Abamectin residues on fruits, leaves and soil of the field planted with cucumber under the conditions of protected cultivation. The thesis also discussed the use of some food operations such as washing with water and soap, brine soaking, peeling and pickling to reduce pesticide residues in cucumber fruits. The thesis concluded that there was no damage to the pesticide Abamectin in the soil, as it took 2 days to vanish from the soil when spraying the vegetative system under the conditions of protected cultivation. It was also found that the food operations were very effective in reducing the amount of pesticide, especially peeling and washing with water, which was better than other operations in reducing the amount of pesticide and there is no need to go into the midst of other operations due to its ease and availability as well as its economic cost. The two pesticides, Tondrix and Pazlin of plant origin, also showed excellent efficiency in controlling T. urticae after a week of spraying on cucumber plants under protected cultivation conditions.
