Seminar on Nitrogenous Bases in DNA

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Thamer Karim Khudair Al-Janabi, and under the supervision of the Head of the Plant Protection Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Abdul-Hussein, and within the activities of the cultural season in the Plant Protection Department for the academic year 2021-2022, Assistant Professor Dr. Adnan Abdul-Jalil Lahof delivered a seminar entitled “The Past, Present and Future of Roads Determining the sequence of nitrogenous bases “I reviewed the historical stages of the development of methods for determining the sequence of nitrogenous bases in nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) by addressing the first-generation method represented by sequencing Sanger, second-generation next-generation sequencing methods, and third-generation single molecule sequencing methods. Examples of the applications of these methods in the field of life sciences in general and plant protection in particular, such as accurate molecular diagnosis by identifying the complete genome of microorganisms, insects and plants. A fruitful scientific discussion was also held with the attending professors by answering their questions and proposals. The seminar was attended by a group of faculty members and a group of graduate and primary students in the Department of Plant Protection.
