A practical activity for students of the Plant Protection Department at the College of Agriculture on biological insect control.

Under the guidance of the Dean of the College of Agriculture and the supervision of the Head of the Plant Protection Department, and within the college’s approach to enhancing the field and practical aspects of laboratory courses, the students of the Plant Protection Department at the College of Agriculture – University of Kerbala conducted a scientific experiment entitled “The Effect of Different Types of Insect Pathogens on the Control of Some Economic Insects under Laboratory Conditions.” The experiment was carried out as part of the requirements of the Practical Biological Control course under the supervision of Dr. Karar Abdul Zahra Mahdi.
The experiment aimed to train students on the use of bacterial and fungal pathogens in the control of major economic insect pests and to familiarize them with the mechanisms of action and methods of application of these biological control agents. During the experiment, commercial preparations of several insect pathogens were used, and the main symptoms and signs observed on the insects after laboratory treatment were recorded.
The supervisor emphasized the importance of such practical activities in developing students’ skills and linking theoretical knowledge with practical application, which contributes to preparing qualified scientific personnel capable of managing insect pests using environmentally friendly methods that reduce the use of chemical pesticides and help produce pesticide-free crops while preserving environmental safety.
