The College of Agriculture at the University of Kerbala organized a specialized training course titled “Stimulating Secondary Metabolites Using Plant Tissue Culture,” as part of its efforts to enhance research and applied knowledge in plant sciences and advanced tissue culture technologies.
The course was delivered by:
Professor Suraab Abdul-Hadi Mohammed
Assistant Professor Dr. Zaid Khalil Kazem
Assistant Lecturer Fatima Kazem Shakir
The course aimed to introduce participants—including faculty members, researchers, and graduate students—to the concept of secondary metabolism in plants, explain how to develop callus and plant tissue cultures using tissue culture techniques, and then stimulate these cultures to produce secondary compounds of scientific and economic value.
The organization of this course comes in line with the growing interest in utilizing tissue culture technologies to produce medicinal plants or plant varieties rich in active compounds, a scientific trend widely adopted at the international level.
The course is expected to contribute to preparing research personnel capable of designing advanced experiments in tissue culture and producing plant compounds used in pharmaceutical and agricultural applications, in addition to supporting local research in the fields of medicinal plants and modern agriculture.
