The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Gardening at the College of Agriculture, University of Kerbala, conducted today a specialized practical lesson in the course of Date Palm Production for fourth-year students, as part of the approved academic curriculum.
The lesson was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Harith Mahmoud Aziz and Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Sahib. It began with an introductory explanation by the course coordinator, addressing the agricultural and economic importance of the date palm in Iraq, its historical significance, as well as an overview of the fundamentals of date palm production and methods of care from the planting stage through to the production stage.
The lesson witnessed notable interaction from the students, who raised several questions and comments related to the real challenges facing date palm production in Iraq and the prospects for developing this vital sector. They emphasized the importance of the course in enhancing their practical skills and preparing them for the agricultural labor market and future production projects.
At the conclusion of the lesson, the teaching staff commended the students’ scientific level and positive engagement, stressing the need to integrate theoretical aspects with practical applications and to continue organizing such educational activities that contribute to improving students’ agricultural competence and strengthening their field experience.
