As part of strengthening scientific cooperation and exchanging academic expertise among the colleges of the University of Karbala, Professor Yasser Nasser Hussein and Professor Adnan Abdul Jalil Lahouf, faculty members in the Department of Plant Protection, College of Agriculture, University of Kerbala, participated in the PhD dissertation defense committee of the student Wafaa Sadiq Hussein Al-Nasrawi at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Kerbala, on Sunday, 22 February 2026. Professor Yasser Nasser Hussein chaired the defense committee, while Professor Adnan Abdul Jalil Lahouf served as a member and supervisor on the committee.
The dissertation, entitled “Diagnosis and Molecular Characterization of Candida Species and Their Response to a Green Nano-Extract,” focused on investigating the molecular aspects of pathogenic Candida species, in addition to evaluating the efficiency of environmentally friendly nano-extracts as promising therapeutic alternatives to reduce the spread of candidiasis among children and the elderly in Karbala Province. The study also included genetic analysis and full genome identification of the causative pathogens.
The defense session featured an in-depth scientific discussion addressing the research methodology, the obtained results, and their practical implications in the field of life sciences, particularly pathogenic fungi and medical microbiology. The committee provided several constructive scientific remarks aimed at enhancing the academic value of the dissertation and further developing its research outcomes.
At the conclusion of the defense, the committee decided to approve the dissertation after the required revisions, wishing the candidate continued success in her academic and research career.
