Under the patronage of the Dean of the College and the guidance of the Head of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Gardening , the department continues to support applied research of economic importance by implementing a master’s study aimed at introducing and testing the cultivation of new plant varieties in Iraq.

Master’s student Lubna Ali Abdul Fattah, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Hadi Ubaid, conducted a study to evaluate the cultivation of a Japanese onion variety under local environmental conditions, as it is considered one of the economically and nutritionally promising varieties.

This variety is characterized by its content of beneficial antioxidants, in addition to its suitability for fresh consumption and use in salads, which enhances its potential adoption in the local market.

This study comes within the department’s direction toward crop diversification and improving the quality of agricultural production, thereby supporting agricultural innovation and contributing to strengthening food security.
