The College of Agriculture at the University of Kerbala organized a specialized training course titled “Climate Change and Human Health: Understanding Risks and Building Sustainable Solutions” as part of its programs aimed at raising scientific and environmental awareness and promoting the principles of sustainable development.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mahdi Najm Rkheet, a faculty member in the Department of Food Science. He presented a scientific overview addressing the most prominent climate changes occurring globally today and their direct and indirect impacts on human health, particularly in agricultural and rural communities.
The course covered a number of key topics, most notably: the impact of rising temperatures on public health, the spread of waterborne and insect-borne diseases, and methods of adapting to these changes through sustainable policies and strategies that integrate environmental and health dimensions.
The course was attended by a number of faculty members, researchers, and interested students, and it featured active engagement and fruitful discussions on the importance of integrating climate change concepts into future health and agricultural plans.
At the conclusion of the course, Dr. Mahdi Najm Rkheet emphasized the need to continue academic efforts in this field and to enhance cooperation between universities and environmental and health institutions, in a way that contributes to building a society better prepared to face climate challenges.
