Two teachers at the College of Agriculture at the University of Karbala obtained a patent for manufacturing a combination of the biopesticide BioTr5 and evaluated its efficiency in the field after storage in combating the pathogens of seed rot and seedling death.

Professor Dr. Aqeel Nazal Al-Abidi and Professor Dr. Zainab Aliwi Al-Tamimi at the College of Agriculture at the University of Karbala obtained a patent entitled “Manufacturing a combination of the biopesticide BioTr5 and evaluating its efficiency in the field after storage in combating the causes of seed rot and seedling death diseases.” The patent included the manufacture of a biopesticide, for the first time, using a jungle plant known for its environmental problems, and after grinding and sterilizing it to grow types of Trichoderma spp. Which was chosen from among four other media for its distinction in giving faster growth and more bacteriosis compared to other media. Five types of Trichderma spp fungi were used in the manufacture of the biopesticide for the first time. Which did not possess any ability to compete with each other when tested in the laboratory, in addition to the possibility of growing to varying degrees at different levels of temperature, salinity, and pH. A mixture consisting of two solutions was also used for the first time before loading the fungi on one of the carrier materials (Talc), which was used as an adhesive for the reproductive units of the fungi and also as a useful nutritional base for the fungi, especially at the beginning of the treatment or adding the biocide to the soil, in addition to its usefulness as a coating material. For conidia and other reproductive units of fungi in order to maintain their moisture. He also used, for the first time, some mineral elements with the aim of enriching the nutritional value of the development medium and as materials that encourage the growth of Trichoderma spp. mushrooms. We wish our colleagues Prof. Dr. Aqeel Nazal Al-Abedi and Prof. Dr. Zainab Aliwi Al-Tamimi, all the best and more giving and scientific creativity in support of and pride for our college, our university and our dear country.
