A faculty member from the University of Karbala publishes a scientific paper in a reputable international journal indexed in global databases.

The faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Kerbala, Assistant Professor Dr. Kadum Mohammed Abdullah Al-Fatlawi, has published a scientific paper titled:
“TARRAGON (ARTEMISIA DRACUNCULUS L.) RESPONSE TO FISH EMULSION AND VERMICOMPOST FERTILIZERS.”

The paper was published in the SABRAO Journal of Breeding and Genetics, one of the leading international journals in the field of plant breeding and production. It is classified within the second quartile (Q2) in the Clarivate databases (Impact Factor: 1.7) and Scopus (Cite Score: 2.4).

The study addressed the cultivation of the medicinal herb tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus L.) for the first time in Iraq in general and in Karbala in particular. It examined the chemical content of the plant after being treated with fish emulsion and vermicompost fertilizers, both prepared locally at the College of Agriculture, University of Karbala, as organic alternatives to chemical fertilizers.

The results showed an improvement in the mineral and nutritional content of tarragon leaves due to the use of these fertilizers, supporting their potential role in reducing environmental pollution caused by excessive use of chemical fertilizers. The study also confirmed that the climatic conditions of the Holy City of Karbala are suitable for cultivating and expanding the production of tarragon for use in medicinal and therapeutic industries.
