Within the framework of cooperation between universities, a scientific seminar was held at the College of Food Sciences, Al-Qasim Green University, entitled:

“Bed bugs as an urban pest: from diagnosis to safe control in food establishments,” on Wednesday, April 16, 2026. The seminar was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Hussein Ali Baqir, Lecturer Zeina Mutlak, and Assistant Agricultural Engineer Lubna Abdul Kamil from the College of Agriculture, University of Kerbala.

The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of identifying bed bugs as a significant urban pest and to clarify the risks they pose in different environments, particularly in food establishments.

The seminar addressed the diagnostic aspects of bed bugs and methods of distinguishing them from other household insects, in addition to reviewing their biological behavior and hiding places.

It also discussed approved and safe control methods, with a focus on implementing integrated pest management practices within food establishments.

The speakers emphasized the importance of health and environmental awareness in limiting the spread of this pest, as well as the necessity of adhering to preventive measures.

The seminar also discussed the main challenges facing control operations and modern scientific solutions to reduce infestation spread.

The seminar witnessed notable interaction from the attendees, with many questions and contributions that enriched the scientific discussion.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the speakers stressed the importance of continuing scientific cooperation among academic institutions and strengthening research efforts in the field of urban pest control.
