University of Kerbala Organizes a Seminar on Water Scarcity and Sustainable Development Strategies

The University of Kerbala organized a seminar titled “Water Scarcity and Effective Strategies for Sustainable Development,” presented by graduate student Mais Khudair Ubaid Al-Maamouri, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Abbas Ali Hussein Al-Aamiri.

The seminar addressed several key topics, including the use of modern irrigation techniques such as drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, which play a vital role in reducing water waste. It also emphasized the importance of sustainable agriculture aimed at improving water-use efficiency and increasing agricultural productivity.

The researcher discussed methods for developing drought-resistant crops through studying plant varieties capable of adapting to water-deficient conditions and requiring less irrigation. She also highlighted the significance of enhancing soil-improvement techniques through organic farming and the use of organic materials to increase the soil’s water-holding capacity.

The seminar concluded by emphasizing the importance of smart agriculture that relies on modern technology, such as precision farming, to monitor water consumption and improve efficiency in agricultural production—thereby contributing to achieving sustainable development goals and addressing the challenges of climate change.
