Participation of the Dean of the College of Agriculture / University of Kerbala in a PhD Dissertation Defense at the University of Baghdad

The Dean of the College of Agriculture – University of Kerbala, Professor Dr. Ali Abdul Hussein Karim, participated in the discussion of a PhD dissertation at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, entitled: Environmental and Physiological Studies on the Pomegranate Fruit Worm and Evaluation of the Efficiency of Certain Control Methods in Managing It, submitted by the student Manar Ahmed Abbas from the Department of Plant Protection.

The dissertation aimed to evaluate the effect of different temperature degrees on the biological characteristics of the pomegranate fruit worm, assess the impact of the number of stamens in pomegranate cultivars on the percentage of infestation, and understand the seasonal distribution of the insect on different host plants.

At the conclusion of her dissertation, the researcher presented several important recommendations, most notably the cultivation of less susceptible cultivars such as “Salimi” in areas with high infestation rates, the early collection and disposal of infested fruits, and the removal of fallen fruit residues to reduce the population of the first generation of the insect in the following season.

Congratulations to the student on this achievement.
